We are all playing the game of life and we have been for however long we’ve been alive. People for decades, even centuries have referred to life as a game. I’ve been really contemplating that notion of life as a game. If it’s a game does that mean there are winners and losers? Or is it just about life being fun? I’ve come to the conclusion that we are here to have fun and to learn, not to be miserable or feel like we are losing.
If life is a game, who gets to make the rules? That’s where things get interesting in this discussion. To be blunt, we get to make our own rules, as long as they are not harmful to others, but most of us are following rules set by other people. Those rules can come from our parents, our friends, our church, our families, our culture, etc. Let’s face it, the rule maker list is extensive! But ultimately, if we really think about it, we get to make our own rules. Someone can tell me “you’re supposed to ….”, but I don’t have to go along with that. I can choose to do what they suggest or I can choose not to, but ultimately, the choice belongs to me.
Games are supposed to be fun and I tend to believe that life is supposed to be fun. I don’t think we are here to be unhappy or make others unhappy; I think we are supposed to find joy in our lives and share that joy with others. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not Always Joyful, but I sure try harder to be than I did when I was younger! We get caught up in things from time to time, but if we pay attention, we can tune back into being happy pretty quickly and easily.
How would you describe your life? Are you having fun? Do you enjoy most of your days? If the answer is no, then maybe look at making some simple changes that would incorporate more joy/happiness in your life. Enjoying life is a choice that we make each and every day, therefore, we can make different choices if we decide to do so.
If the answer to the first 3 questions above is yes, then You are Winning at the game of Life! Keep up the good work. Winning at life isn’t about money or things or fame; it’s about loving the life you have. And we can all be winners in this particular game, so go for the victory and enjoy your life. You Win!
