Setting Intentions

In May, I started on one of many life experiments.  I decided to set an intention at the beginning of every morning and at night I spent a few minutes noting what had happened that day that was related to my intention.  I decided to set an intention every day for 30 consecutive days, and then make notes each evening.  I did it!  It was a little daunting at first, but then it got easier and easier.

As the month went by, I noticed that I was only spending a total of about 10-15 between the morning and the evening time writing down my intentions and then noting what the day was like.  I found that each day, something had happened that fit my intention for the day.  I have decided to continue this practice for an entire year!  My goal is 365 days of setting intentions and then to be able to look back and see where I am at the end in comparison to where I started this journey.

Now you may be wondering why I am doing this and I would have wondered that same thing earlier in my life.  I am trying to be a better author/architect of my own life.  We can live with intention or we can live by the seat of our pants and just takes what comes.

Please understand that one approach is not better than the other and they both have some pros (and probably some cons but maybe not), they are just different approaches to the same thing, living our lives.  I have spent many years living by the seat of my pants and it hasn’t been bad at all.  I have recently decided that I wanted to live more intentionally and see where that takes me.  So here I am on a journey that I am excited about taking!

Some people have told me that we set intentions even if we don’t realize it by making the choices that we make.  I can see where this could be accurate.  I guess that I am wanting to be more purposeful in my intentions and see what happens.

I invite you to join me in a 30 day experiment of setting intentions deliberately and mindfully.  Just jot something down in the morning and then jot down your findings at the end of the day.  I am going to do this on my Facebook page for Beacon Professional Counseling.  If you would like to keep track of what I am doing, or even join me for the next 30 days, just follow Beacon Professional Counseling on Facebook.  I’ll post my findings in another 30 days and maybe give some updates throughout the month.  I have a lot planned for this month and I hope you follow my journey, or even better join me!  I’ll start this 30 day period on July 3, 2017 and it will end on August 2, 2017!  Let’s have some fun with this!
