When I am talking about planning, I am not talking about a business plan. Technically, that what some of the earlier posts addressed in specific areas. It is always a great idea to have a written plan for your business.
But, do you always want to be in business? Do you always want to work full time? I am firm believer in starting with the end in mind. I know that sometimes people count on being able to sell their business to someone else when they are ready to retire, but that doesn’t always happen.
So what is your plan as you go through your life and your career? Do you want to retire and stop working all together at some point? Do you want to continue to work part-time? Do you want to focus your attention on a completely different area in the future?
These are the questions that we all need to be thinking about as we start our businesses. Time will go quickly and your plan will probably evolve over time and that’s the way it should be. The issue is that some of people don’t focus on anything other than the immediate future and suddenly they are in a position of making these choices that they weren’t quite prepared for in life and in business.j
So take some time and make a plan. Allow your plan to evolve with you over time. Things will go much more smoothly if you take the time now and look at the possibilities to come.
See you soon!
